It's a bit late, but I'm posting this to fulfill a promise: last month, I announced I had some big travel plans coming down the pipeline, but I kept details under wraps until everything was nailed down. (Did anyone get the Darwin joke in the title?)
So today, I'm proud to announce an upcoming partnership with MatadorU and Adventure Center, who are working together to send me on an excursion of the Galápagos Islands. While there, I'll be island-hopping via yacht collecting material and adventure points, snorkeling with seal pups and goofing around with blue-footed boobies (insert 3rd-grade snicker here).
Media-wise, I'll be covering the everything with narrative and photos (as per usual), and I recently invested in a GoPro HDHero2, marking this trip as my re-introduction into the crazy world of videography. As such, I'm going-for-broke with my subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud—expect a final cut that will stir your travel loins.
Also, my exact latitude will be around half a degree south of the equator—which means this will be my first time in the southern hemisphere, as Alaskans tend to travel laterally, and seldom further south than Hawaii or Mexico. Egads!
I'll be bookending my trip with a few weeks in Quito and the surrounding areas—maybe a surf retreat to Salinas is in order. Any recommendations?
Have you been to the Galápagos Islands? What did you enjoy most about them, or what do you hope to see if/when you go?
